Do TFT-Flat Picture Monitors damage the Eyes?

That the generated electro smog from old tube monitors can be a health hazard, nearly every PC-user knows. But if someone thinks, that thanks to the modern flat screen monitors one lives healthier, one probably jumps from the frying pan into the fire. Meanwhile there is relevant information that TFT-flat-screen-monitors, because of the used mercury lights with high and unnatural short-wave proportions of blue in the background lightning, can damage the eyes irreversibly and can also generate unhealthy stress in the body.

This has not been proven in long time studies, but it is assumed on the basis of scientific investigation, which should be taken seriously, that the light spectrum with a high share of aggressive blue light is harmful to the back of the eye, the macula. Subsequently: The macula degeneration (AMD), which is determined by age, can be promoted. Intensive blue light influences also the hormone balance negatively. Which means lasting stress to our body, which can promote the development of civilization sicknesses.

If one counts eight hours or more, which many people according to their individual situation – either student, PC-freak, or working – pass in front of the PC and/or TV-flat screen monitor, then one is exposed for up to 3.000 hours per year to mercury- or blue light. Besides, sitting for hours before the PC or TV leads to inactivity and obesity and makes one sick altogether. In the long run, if we overdo these activities (sitting too much in front of the TV or PC), we put an additional health burden on our body system, which is avoidable.
